Bike Down Was A Huge Success!

From Daly City to Watsonville, 24 cyclists spent three days building community, exploring the California coast, whale watching, eating delicious meals, visiting and staying at organic farms, and connecting with allies at bike projects in Santa Cruz and Watsonville. Check out rider Bonnie Chan’s article about the ride in Oakland Local!

The ride was supported by over 300 donors, who collectively gave almost $14,200 (and counting!) to support the Bike Go Round, a Cycles of Change program that has given away over 750 bikes to adults who lacked reliable transportation. It’s not too late to donate – we are $800 short of our goal! Click here to donate.

Thanks to our hosts at Portrero Nuevo Farm and Freewheelin Farm who generously shared their space with us. We also got a tour of Swanton Berry Farm, the first farm in the country to grow organic strawberries (and one of the only unionized organic farms in the country).

In between watching the migrating grey whales spyhopping in the water, we stopped in at the Bike Church in Santa Cruz and meet some awesome people. Sandino and Emily from the Bike Shack rode with us to a celebratory barbecue hosted by Lorenzo, Sergio, and everyone at the Bike Shack in Watsonville, who work hard to keep their community on bikes–a shop after our own heart!
